Each family in a village might have it's own saint and then a nicho or wooden case to preserve it.  These can be very detailed with glass windows, or hand painted doors.  The very large versions are found throughout Mexican churches to house the saints and figures of importance to that church or city.  A wonderful selection is always on display at Banderas Bay Trading Company.
